Jenkins named TABC junior college women’s coach of the year

Blinn College women's basketball coach Jeff Jenkins was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) women's junior college coach of the year Thursday at the TABC Clinic at St. Mary's University in San Antonio.

"The TABC has always been a big deal to me because my dad was a high school coach for 30 years and I always heard of the TABC growing up," Jenkins said. "This is an award that I am proud of because I have always respected the TABC."

Jenkins and the Buccaneers are coming off a season that included a Region XIV Conference championship, a trip to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament and a 26-9 record.

Sophomore Ebony Parker earned NJCAA All-America honors to become the 13th All-American in program history.

"I am proud to coach this team that is a group of overachievers that practiced and played with high energy every day," Jenkins said. "I enjoyed going to work every day with this group. Also, my assistant coach Brateicka Mock has been a true blessing and a big reason for our team's success."

Jenkins' 299-154 record at Blinn makes him the winningest coach in program history, and he holds an overall record of 352-192.

This is the first TABC coach of the year award for Jenkins in his 17-year head coaching career. Audrisa Harrison and Tilmila Martin have been named TABC junior college players of the year in previous seasons under Jenkins.

Jenkins began his coaching career in 1995 at Midwestern State University, where he worked for two seasons under former Blinn coach Wayne Williams. In 1997, he was named full-time assistant coach at Midwestern State. Jenkins coached three years at Paris Junior College before coming to Blinn in 2002.

A native of Round Rock, he played his collegiate basketball at Midwestern State University and Howard Payne University. He was named team captain at Howard Payne during his junior and senior seasons, and was named to the all-conference academic team both seasons. During his senior season, the team won the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship and was invited to the NAIA Division II National Tournament.

Jenkins earned his bachelor's in sport and exercise science from Howard Payne University and his master's in physical education from Midwestern State University. He and his wife Tiffany have three daughters, Allyson, Lindy and Rhyan.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 34 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
