Blinn’s Ebony Parker earns NJCAA All-America honorable mention

Ebony Parker may be the best 3-point shooter in the history of the Blinn College women's basketball team.

It was her willingness to do everything else to help the Buccaneers win that made her an NJCAA All-American.

Parker earned NJCAA Division I All-America honorable mention Thursday, Blinn's first All-American since Fatima Adams in 2013-14 and the 13th in program history.

"Ebony practiced hard every day of the season and hustled out on the court during games," coach Jeff Jenkins said. "There were some nights that she didn't shoot well, but she gave each game her full effort every night."

Parker, who transferred to Blinn after playing her freshman season at Baker (Kan.) University, led the Buccaneers in scoring, 3-pointers made and minutes played.

"I came down to Blinn with the mindset that I am going to go hard because I will only have one year here," Parker said. "I expected to have a good season but I didn't expect to get all of these honors like player of the week twice and breaking the 3-pointers made record."

With Blinn returning just eight percent of its scoring from a year ago, Parker and other transfers led the Buccaneers to the Region XIV Tournament championship and a spot in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. Blinn finished the season with a 26-9 overall record while Parker reunited with former high school teammates Jeliah Preston and Ekiya Gray at Blinn.

Parker averaged 17.5 points per game and made 144 shots from behind the 3-point line in leading the Buccaneers in both categories. Parker's 144 made 3-point shots is a new NJCAA Division I record.

"In our locker room we have big pictures of each All-American and now Ebony is going to have her picture placed in the locker room," Jenkins said.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 32 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
