No. 25 Buccaneers pull away from Coastal Bend in second half, 73-55

BEEVILLE, Texas – Strong defensive effort in the second half helped No. 25 Blinn College women's basketball pull away from Coastal Bend College for a 73-55 victory Wednesday night in Beeville.

Outscoring Coastal Bend 41-25 in the second half helped the Buccaneers win their seventh straight conference game and improve to 18-6 overall and 10-4 in Region XIV play.

"We were finally able to get some stops in the third quarter," said Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins. "Our depth really helped us in the second half."

Ebony Parker led Blinn with 21 points while Ekiya Gray tossed in 13 points. Penina Faumui added 11 points, Jeliah Preston finished with nine and Gabriella Odom chipped in eight points.

Blinn was able to jump out to a little lead in the first quarter and led 21-18 after one. Coastal Bend hung around in the second quarter and cut the lead down to two at the half with the score 32-30 in Blinn's favor.

The third quarter was the best for the Buccaneers as they outscored Coastal Bend 23-10 to grab a 55-40 lead after the third. Blinn was able to maintain its lead in the fourth to grab the 18-point victory.

After three consecutive road games, Blinn will be back at home on Saturday, Feb. 6 against Jacksonville College at 2 p.m.
