The Blinn College softball team fell twice in a doubleheader against Louisiana State University-Eunice and Pearl River Community College on Saturday in Eunice, La.
The Buccaneers fell to LSU-Eunice 4-3 in the opener before dropping an eight-inning battle to Pearl River to end the day.
"We pitched some quality innings today and battled to tie the score in both games, Blinn head coach Rick Church said. "Situational toughness on defense and offense cost us a more positive outcome today."
The Bucs fell to 24-18 overall.
Against Eunice, a run in the bottom of the seventh inning sent the Bengals to a walk-off victory.
The Bucs tied the game at three-all in the top of the seventh on an RBI double from freshman Alayna Calvillo.
Blinn scored first, taking a 2-0 advantage in the top of the fourth before Eunice tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the frame. The Bengals grabbed its short0lived 3-2 edge in the home half of the sixth.
The Bucs totaled six hits, including doubles for freshmen Haley Rust and Ripley Welker. Rust had two RBIs.
In the pitcher's circle, sophomore Chloe Mason worked 6 1/3 innings of five-hit ball. She allowed one earned run with three walks and a strikeout.
Blinn showed tremendous grit in Saturday's finale against Pearl Rivers, as the Bucs climbed back from a 6-0 deficit in the late innings of the contest.
In the top of the sixth with the bases loaded, freshman Alyssa Boozy singled in Welker. A sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Emily Kristynik made it 6-2 before freshman Madison Dorrow clubbed a line-drive double to center field to plate Boozy, freshman Erynne Castillo, and sophomore Caitlyn Stevens.
Boozy added an RBI single, again scoring Welker, in the top of the seventh to tie the game.
The Wildcats prevailed in the eighth inning for the win.
Blinn finished with nine hits, led by two apiece for Dorrow and Boozy. Dorrow had two doubles.
Freshman Sydnie Cline settled for a no-decision for the Bucs after lasting 4 2/3 innings in the circle. She gave up six earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Sophomore Kailey Eldridge allowed an unearned run in hear 2 1/3 innings of work and a tough-luck loss. She walked two and fanned two.
Blinn resumes Region XIV South Zone play when it visits San Jacinto College-South for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, in Houston.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 43 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
