Blinn College softball concluded its six-game road trip with two losses to Trinity Valley Community College on Monday in Athens, Texas.

The Cardinals won the two games 9-2 and 10-2 (six-innings).

"It was not a good day for Blinn softball," Buccaneers head coach Rick Church said. "Our pitchers gave up too many hard-hit balls; our defense had too many errors; and we didn't have enough offense today. Trinity Valley was ready to compete against us." 

Blinn finished with seven hits in game one of the doubleheader, tallying both of its runs on a two-run homer from freshman Madison Dorrow in the second inning. 

Freshman Erynne Castillo had two hits.

Sophomore pitcher Chloee Mason took the loss following 1 1/3 innings pitched. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts. Freshman Camdyn Shugart tossed the final 4 2/3 frames and surrendered two earned runs on four hits with a pair of walks.

In game two, the Bucs were held to just six hits.

Sophomore Emily Kristynik smacked an RBI single that drove in freshman Alayna Calvillo in the top of the fourth frame, and sophomore Caitlyn Stevens hit a solo home run in the sixth.

Calvillo had two hits for Blinn.

Freshman Sydnie Cline was the pitcher of record, working five innings for the Bucs. She allowed seven earned runs on nine hits with three punchouts and a walk. Sophomore Kailey Eldridge got two outs in the sixth before Trinity Valley pushed across its 10th run of the game to enforce the mercy rule.

"We get another crack at them at home on April 7," Church said of his team's twin bill against the Cardinals next month. "Now it's time to regroup for San Jacinto-South."

The Bucs will host San Jacinto College-South for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
