Blinn College men's basketball coach Stott Carter recently was named the 2018-19 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) assistant coach of the year for the junior college level.

Carter just completed his third season as an assistant basketball coach for the Buccaneers. Blinn has qualified for the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament in each of his three seasons on the coaching staff.

"Stott has displayed tremendous work ethic and remarkable loyalty to our men's basketball program, so I am happy to see him receive this well-deserved award," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn athletic director and head basketball coach. "His number one attribute is his willingness to help our student athletes in the basketball program. He helps them grow as individuals academically, socially, and athletically."

The Buccaneers have posted at least 20 wins in each of the past two seasons. This year, Blinn went 21-10 and qualified for the Region XIV Conference Tournament.

"It is extremely exciting and very humbling to receive this honor, especially with the history of junior college basketball in the state of Texas," Carter said. "I am grateful to Blinn College, Dr. Mary Hensley, Scott Schumacher, and the athletic department staff for their support. One of the best things about coaching at Blinn is that this program really gives our students a chance to be successful and it has been a great thing to see so many of our kids graduate and move on to four-year schools."

Carter began his coaching career with Billy Donovan as a graduate assistant at Florida, and also spent time as an assistant coach at Kilgore College, Central Florida Community College, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Pfeiffer University, and Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU). Prior to joining the Blinn staff, Carter served as the head coach for ENMU.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
