Strong offense pushes Blinn to road win over Kilgore, 64-57

KILGORE, Texas — JaQuan Morris and Kai Tease combined for 35 points to push Blinn College men's basketball to a win over Kilgore College, 64-57, on Saturday afternoon. 

The win ended a three-game losing streak for Blinn and increased its overall record to 12-5 and Region XIV record to 2-5.

"This was the first time we were able to finish a close game at the end and I couldn't be happier for my guys," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. "To get a win on the road in this league is a double win." 

Morris led Blinn's offense with 18 points, while Tease followed with 17 and Tristan Ikpe with 14. On defense, Tease and Uriel Velis led the Buccaneers with six rebounds each. Tease also led Blinn with two assists and two steals. 

After playing a close first half with Blinn, Kilgore pulled ahead 29-25 entering the second half. Blinn's offense opened the second half strong to take a 17-point lead and hold it until the end.

The Blinn College men's basketball team will take the court against Angelina College on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kruse Center. Blinn College women's basketball will open the doubleheader against Bossier Parish Community College at 5:30 p.m. Both games will feature 50 cent hot dogs, that can be purchased by cash or credit only, for Student Appreciation Night.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
