Buccaneers open conference play with 42-30 win over Cisco

CISCO, Texas - The Buccaneers kicked off the 2017 season with a 42-30 victory over Cisco College on Saturday night in Cisco.

The win started the Buccaneers off with a 1-0 record in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.

Quarterback Devin Williams led the Buccaneers with three touchdowns as he completed 11 of 22 passes for 253 yards and two passing touchdowns, while rushing in one. Carlos Grace followed with two touchdowns after rushing for over 100 yards.

Dandre Reed and Sicory Smith each jumped in with a touchdown after Reed received an 83-yard pass and Smith caught a 53-yard pass to score.

The Buccaneeounced on Cisco early to take a 21-6 lead in the first quarter that they held onto throughout the game. Blinn increased their lead to 35-13 at the half.

In the second half, Cisco outscored Blinn 17-7, but the Buccaneers built up to a 42-30 lead that they held on to for the win.

"I am really proud of the team," said Ryan Mahon, Blinn head coach. "They had a big week helping the community and then playing a conference opener and I couldn't be more proud of them."

The Buccaneers will face their first ranked opponent, No. 7 Navarro, on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. for Blinn's first home game this season.

 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
