Blinn College football had two defensive players earn a spot on the NJCAA All-America team for the 2017 season.

Defensive lineman Antwuan Jackson Jr. (Ellenwood, Ga.) was named to the first team, while defensive back Vonte Davis (Rosenberg) was named to the second team.

"We had an exceptionally good defense and a large part of that is because those guys were making plays for us," said Ryan Mahon, Blinn head coach. "Jackson is an instant playmaker and was a game changer upfront, and in the secondary Davis made some very big plays in key moments for us."

Blinn's defense held its opponents to an average of 25 points per game this season as Jackson led the Buccaneers with nine sacks and Davis led the Buccaneers with three fumble recoveries.

Jackson and Davis also earned first team all-conference honors, while Jackson was named the most valuable player in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.

"My goal was to be the conference MVP and a first team All-American, so this is something that I will be able to look back on and am proud of," Jackson said. "My teammates were the people who got me through junior college and they are now brothers to me."

Jackson was second on the team with 70 tackles, while forcing three fumbles. He signed with Ohio State during the mid-year signing period.

Davis earned All-America honors after totaling 48 tackles, forcing three fumbles, and recording two interceptions for the Buccaneers.

"It is exciting, but I know that I have more work to do to get better," Davis said.

Blinn finished the 2017 season with a 6-4 record and its first trip to a bowl game since 2011.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
