Sixth-ranked Rangers rally to foil Bucs’ upset bid

BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers were 10 minutes away from pulling off a lopsided upset of the No. 6 team in the nation.

Then a fumble turned the whole ballgame around. Kilgore defeated Blinn 28-27 Saturday night at Cub Stadium, erasing a 27-7 fourth-quarter deficit to remain undefeated on the season.

With just under 10 minutes to go, Blinn fumbled the ball and Kilgore returned it for a touchdown to cut Blinn's lead to 27-14. The Rangers soon followed with 14 unanswered points, including the game-winning touchdown with four seconds remaining in the game.

With the win, Kilgore remains in the national championship picture with a 6-0 overall mark and a 4-0 record in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.

The loss dropped Blinn to 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference. The Bucs will look to right the ship on Oct. 13 when they travel to Athens, Texas for a 3 p.m. game against Trinity Valley Community College.
