Blinn drops two games to No. 15 San Jacinto

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College baseball team (13-9, 4-6) dropped two games to  No. 15 San Jacinto College-North Saturday at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Blinn fell to San Jacinto by the scores of 5-2 and 3-0.

San Jacinto 5 – Blinn 2

San Jacinto opened the doubleheader with a 5-2 win over Blinn.

Brett Minnich led Blinn's offense with two hits and scored one run, while Kam Kelton and Brandon Williams each knocked in one run and Dalton Davis scored one run.

Trevor Mott received the loss after surrendering four runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.

San Jacinto scored in the first inning on a one-run double, and Blinn evened the score in the bottom half of the inning after Davis led off with a walk, moved into scoring position on Cole Brown's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Kelton's single.

The Gators took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a one-run single.

Following three scoreless innings, San Jacinto added to its lead with two runs in the sixth inning. San Jacinto led 3-1 following a solo home run and 4-1 after a one-run single.

The Gators scored their last run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly.

Blinn rallied for one run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Minnich led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Williams. Dalton Stevenson kept things rolling with a single, but was left stranded as Blinn fell.

San Jacinto concluded the doubleheader with a 3-0 win over the Buccaneers.

Brown, Kelton, Williams, and Stevenson all produced hits, while Westley Schields drew a walk.

Jack Driskell was successful on the mound, striking out nine Gators in seven innings, but received the loss after giving up three runs on five hits. Dylan Theut and Eric Oakes each threw one scoreless inning.

San Jacinto led 1-0 after scoring on a one-run double in the first inning. The Gators scored their second run on a dropped third strike in the fifth inning, while San Jacinto's final run came on a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Next, the Buccaneers will host South Suburban College in a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 10, at 3 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
