Blinn baseball, softball named NJCAA All-Academic Teams

Blinn College's baseball and softball teams were named 2012-13 NJCAA All-Academic Teams and four athletes were named Academic All-Americans, Athletic Director Scott Schumacher announced today.

The Buccaneer baseball team posted a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) for the 2012-13 school year while the Buccaneer softball team tallied a 3.08. To be considered for all-academic honors, teams must post a team GPA of 3.00.

This is the baseball team's fourth consecutive year to earn all-academic recognition and the fifth time the team has been honored in the last six years. It marks the third time the softball program has earned academic honors in the past four years.

Blinn volleyball player Molly Duge, softball player Christa Hartnett and baseball players Holden Cammack and Kyle Mueller each earned Academic All-American honors. Duge, a sophomore from Brenham, earned a Superior Academic Achievement Award. Hartnett, a sophomore from Houston; Cammack, a sophomore from Grapevine; and Mueller, a sophomore from Bellville, each received Exemplary Academic Achievement Awards.

Students must at least a 3.80 GPA over at least 45 semester hours to qualify for Superior Academic Achievement and a 3.60 to qualify for Exemplary Academic Achievement.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and has captured 26 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
