Coker captures Bucs’ home run derby crown

Sophomore outfielder Tyler Coker placed first and sophomore pitcher Kyle Mueller was second in the Blinn College baseball team's sixth annual home run derby Saturday at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Coker, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound sophomore, hit 11 total home runs to win the derby. He transferred to Blinn from Oral Roberts University this Fall after leading Atascocita to the playoffs all four years of high school. Coker earned all-district honors as a junior and a senior.

Mueller, a 6-foot-6, 222-pound sophomore from Bellville, hit eight home runs to finish second. He earned all-district honors three times for Bellville High School, including all-state honors in 2010. He transferred to Blinn from Rice University.
