Confident Buccaneers sweep past Lee, 3-0

BRENHAM, Texas – A confident and loose Blinn College volleyball team took care of business by sweeping Lee College 3-0 by the score 25-19, 25-19 and 25-15.

This match was the final regular season conference contest for the Buccaneers as they finish with an 8-2 record in Region XIV and a 23-9 overall record.

After suffering a five-set loss to San Jacinto College-Central earlier in the week the Buccaneers quickly put that loss behind them and put their focus on Lee and took control of the match early and never looked back.

"I think our loss to San Jac made them more determined to showcase who they really are," said head coach Kalie Mader about her team.

Jordyn Keamo, who usually dishes out the assists and set up her teammates, led the Buccaneers in kills with 11 and still earned 37 assists. Keamo had extra motivation to play well with her parents surprising her with a visit from Hawaii.

"We forgot about our loss and just focused on this match and had fun," Keamo said. "I love to hit so whenever and I don't think too many teams expect me to go for a kill."

Danusia Borgeaud chipped in with nine kills and 15 digs while Eboni Mitchell ended with eight kills. Barbara Krug helped out defensively with 10 digs.

Lee actually came out fast with a 6-2 lead but it didn't last long as Blinn fought back to tie the first set at 8-8 after a kill from Haley Howard. The Buccaneers took an 18-12 after fourth straight points capped by a kill from Alexis Kingston. Blinn was able to maintain its lead and take the first set 25-19 after a Lee hitting error.

Blinn started out fast in the second set by taking an 11-5 lead after an ace from Borgeaud. The Buccaneers lead extended out to 18-10 after a block from Kingston and form the Blinn was able to cruise on to a 25-19 victory in the second for a 2-0 lead in sets.

Not wanting to let Lee creep back into the match, Blinn shot out to a 9-4 lead after a kill from Borgeaud. That lead ballooned out to 19-10 after an ace from Krug and Blinn was able to seal the sweep on a Howard kill to take the third set 25-15.

Blinn will honor its sophomores on Monday, Oct. 26 match against Navarro College at 6 p.m.
