Buccaneers cruise to sweep of Coastal Bend, 3-0

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College volleyball was going after every loose ball and hitting well at the net for points as the Buccaneers completed a 3-0 sweep of Coastal Bend College Saturday afternoon inside the PE Building in Brenham.

The Buccaneers won by the score of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-18 to improve its overall record to 13-7 and the Region XIV record also improved to 2-1.

"Our effort was strong tonight and even our swings were aggressive," said Blinn head coach Kalie Mader. "We wanted to follow the same theme as last night of scoring more points on our own and we did that."

Blinn had a very balanced effort on the offensive end as Eboni Mitchell led the team with eight kills, six digs and a .353 hitting percentage. Abolanle Onipede and Alexis Kingston each finished with seven kills and the team combined for a .406 hitting percentage.

Serving was also a big strength was the Buccaneers combined for 18 aces as Coastal Bend had trouble defending the aggressive serve style of Blinn. Jordyn Keamo finished with 31 assists in the victory.

The Buccaneers jumped out to an 11-2 lead after an ace from Dana Teets in the first set. The set didn't get any better for Coastal Bend as Blinn kept its foot on the gas and closed out the first with a 25-8 victory.

The second set was slightly closer but Blinn was still able to hold on to the momentum and lead 18-10 in the second after an ace from Kingston. The Buccaneers closed out the second set 25-14 to grab a 2-0 lead in sets.

Coastal Bend gave its best effort in the third set, keeping the set close. Down the stretch though, the Buccaneers were able to pull away as Keamo sealed the sweep with an ace for a 25-18 victory in the third.
