Blinn blanks Trinity Valley on the road in Region XIV matchup

 

The Blinn College women's soccer team shutout Trinity Valley Community College 5-0 in a Region XIV tilt Wednesday in Athens, Texas.

The victory improved the Buccaneers to 6-8 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

"We needed to win today, and the players showed up and did their job," Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "It was a great team performance and I'm proud of the girls."

The Bucs' five goals set a new program record for goals in a single season at 36. Blinn finished with 34 goals in 2021.

Five different players scored against the Cardinals, starting with freshman forward Emeyda Cruz's goal in the 30th minute. Sophomore midfielder Kay-Lynn McCall assisted Cruz's tally.

In the 35th minute, freshman defender Emma Orozco took a feed from freshman defender Bailey Edwards and turned it into a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore midfielder Anissa Chairez assisted on a goal from freshman midfielder Rileigh Toner in the 40th minute. 

In the 69th minute, McCall gave the Bucs a 4-0 cushion on an unassisted score.

McCall earned her second assist of the game when she fed freshman forward Samara Sanders for a score in the 70th minute.

Blinn outshot Trinity Valley 10-2.

Buccaneer freshman goalkeeper Sydney Gibbs made two saves.

Blinn wraps up its regular season with a road trip to No. 15 Navarro College at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
