Blinn blows out Galveston in game one of doubleheader split

The Blinn College softball team started Wednesday with a bang, blowing out Galveston College 12-2 before dropping a 6-1 decision to settle for a Region XIV South doubleheader split in Galveston, Texas. 

The Buccaneers (16-29 overall, 9-11 Region XIV South) clubbed 14 hits in the opening ballgame and used an eight-run third inning to turn a 3-0 game into a five-inning blowout.

Galveston got on the board with a run in the fourth, while Blinn tallied another run in the fifth. The Whitecaps added one more run in the home half of the fifth.

Five different Buccaneers had at least two hits, led by a pair of three-hit performances from Kayla Wallace and Keely Castillo. Wallace doubled twice, scored twice, and drove in one run. Castillo had three RBI and scored once.

Chandler Talbot, Emily Kristynik, and Teagan Whitley had two hits apiece. Kendall Johnson drove in three runs and Whitley plated two. Kenley Strange also had an RBI.

Chloee Mason earned her ninth victory of the season in the pitcher's circle with a complete game outing. She allowed two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, Blinn grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on a Kristynik home run, but the Whitecaps rallied for three runs in the fourth to take the lead. Galveston added two more runs in the fifth and a solo tally in the sixth.

Blinn finished with two hits. 

Kaitlyn Sadler was the pitcher of record for the Buccaneers after a four-run stint in the circle.

Blinn hosts Lamar State College-Port Athur for a South zone twin bill beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. The Buccaneers will celebrate sophomore day ahead of game one.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
