No. 17 McLennan sweeps Blinn in doubleheader

The Blinn College softball team dropped a doubleheader to No. 17 McLennan Community College on Saturday in Waco, Texas.

McLennan won both games 10-2 and swept a four-game series from Blinn.

"It was a disappointing series," Blinn head coach Rick Church said. "Our defense and offense couldn't hold up. We'll lick our wounds and hope to get on the right track next week at the Snead State tournament."

In the opener of the doubleheader, sophomore Chandler Talbot grounded into a fielder's choice, which scored Kendall Johnson, and sophomore Teagan Whitley scored on a McLennan error as the Bucs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Blinn freshman pitcher Chloee Mason kept the Highlassies scoreless for three frames, but McLennan rallied for six runs in the fourth inning before tacking on two more in the fifth and sixth innings before the game was called.

In game two, the Highlassies built a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Blinn answered with Kayla Wallace's two-run double, but that was it for the Bucs. McLennan added two more runs in the third frame and two more in the fifth.

The game was called following the fifth inning. The Buccaneers are now 2-8 overall.

Blinn's season continues at the Snead State Community College tournament beginning Friday, Feb. 25, in Albertville, Ala. The Buccaneers will take on Chattanooga State Community College at 10 a.m.; Jefferson College at 12:30 p.m.; and Southern Union State Community College at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 26, Blinn will face Snead State at 10 a.m. and Walters State Community College at 12:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
