Three Blinn athletic programs named 2019 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year

The NJCAA has recognized the Blinn College softball, baseball, and volleyball teams for academic achievement.

All three programs were named 2019 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year in their respective sports after maintaining a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better throughout the academic year.

"This is a wonderful accomplishment for our student athletes, their coaches, and our academic support staff," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn athletic director. "This recognition speaks to the quality of the young men and women we recruit to Blinn College and their dedication to academic success at one of the most rigorous community colleges in the State of Texas."

The softball team posted a 3.34 GPA, the baseball team earned a 3.26 GPA, and the volleyball team posted a 3.2 GPA. In addition, 17 Blinn athletes were named to the NJCAA All-Academic team for maintaining a GPA of 3.60 or higher.

Emelyn Coussou and Kristin Kaiser were named to the first team with perfect 4.0 GPAs, Ashley Richardson, Brett Minninch, Preston Hoffart, Rachel Barnett, Samantha Boatman, and Tony Martinez were named to the second team for posting GPAs between 3.80 and 3.99 GPA, and Clarissa Hagler, Hailey Burke, Judson Schaper, Kajol Prasad, Kelsey Lowke, Roxanne Morris, Ryan Day, Ryan Pollard, and Walker Zander were named to the third team for maintaining a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
