No. 7 Buccaneers earn two sweeps to finish WTC Fall Classic with perfect record

Seventh-ranked Blinn College volleyball improved to 8-0 on the year with sweeps of Western Texas College and Dallas College-Mountain View on the final day of the Western Texas College Fall Classic on Saturday in Snyder, Texas.

Blinn put forth a perfect 4-0 record during the WTC Fall Classic.

The Buccaneers have also earned sweeps in all but one of their matches this season.

"I thought the girls played well for most of the day," Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said. "We had a couple of focus mistakes that we need to learn, but if we keep working hard and continue to improve, we have a chance to be a pretty good team."

The Buccaneers started Saturday with a 25-16, 25-22, 25-14 triumph over Western Texas.

One of the many bright spots for Blinn in the season's early going has been the play of two-way sophomore Kierslynn Wright, and that continued against Western Texas.

Wright led the Bucs with 14 kills on offense to go with a team-best 14 digs on defense. Following Wright's efforts were freshman hitter Taylor Glendening (13 kills and a .684 hitting percentage); freshman setter Kelsi Wingo (37 set assists); and sophomore Ellie Turner along with freshmen Kayle Kruse and Emily Hardee, who had 29, 12, and 10 digs, respectively.

Blinn ended the tournament with a 25-6, 25-10, 25-17 victory over Mountain View.

Wright and freshman setter Darby Nash led the way offensively with 19 kills and 26 assists, respectively.

Freshman hitter LaNeah Lara added eight kills and Glendening chipped in five. On Defense, Turner recorded 22 digs followed by 13 for Hardee and 10 for Nash.

The Buccaneers begin Region XIV play with a home tilt against Tyler Junior College at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
