Blinn women’s soccer takes overtime victory over Paris, 4-3

PARIS, Texas — Katherine Rabold scored two goals to help lead Blinn College women's soccer (2-4, 2-3) to a 4-3 overtime victory over Paris Junior College on Saturday afternoon.

Rabold scored the first goal for Blinn in the second half, and the final goal for Blinn when she kicked in the game-winning goal for the overtime victory. Ryleigh Smith and Ashleigh Rivas each scored a goal in the victory. On defense, Zoe Madrid and Kaysi Gordon each recorded three saves.

Although Paris held a 2-0 lead after scoring in the 6th and 47th minutes, the Buccaneers worked quickly to score three goals in a 10-minute period.

It wasn't until the 56th minute that Blinn got on the board when Rabold scored an unassisted goal to spark the offense. Smith scored an unassisted goal three minutes later to tie the game 2-2, while Rivas scored in the 66th minute for the Buccaneers to take a 3-2 lead.

Paris scored in the 81st minute to even the score 3-3 and send it into overtime. Rabold notched the victory for Blinn in the 98th minute for the Buccaneers to claim a 4-3 victory.

The Buccaneers will face NJCAA Division III No. 2 Richland College on the road on Monday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m.  

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
