No. 2 Buccaneers use strong offense, defense to cruise past Coastal Bend

The second-ranked Blinn College women's basketball team rode a strong offensive and defensive effort to a 73-33 Region XIV victory over Coastal Bend College on Saturday in Beeville, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

"It was a great team win on the road, and I'm very proud of our defense for not allowing more than 10 points in any quarter," Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. "All 10 players that we suited up scored and got quality minutes. It was a good way to go into the holiday break."

The Buccaneers were in control from start to finish. They led 17-8 after the first quarter, 44-15 by halftime, and 59-25 heading into the fourth period.

Sophomore forward Tiffany Tullis paced Blinn with 14 points and was followed by a 12-point showing from freshman guard Tianna Mathis. Sophomore guards Crystal Smith and Skylar Barnes finished with nine points apiece.

The Buccaneers are now off until 2023, when they open the new year with a home tilt against South Plains College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 7, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
