No. 3 Blinn ramps up defense to power past Western Texas

The third-ranked Blinn College women's basketball team leaned on its reliable offense while flexing its defensive muscles on its way to a 70-41 victory over Western Texas College on Monday.

The Buccaneers (5-0) earned the victory in Snyder, Texas, with the help of an impressive third quarter in which they outscored the Westerners 15-2. The stiff defense helped Blinn turn a 38-28 halftime lead into a 53-30 cushion heading into the fourth quarter.

"It was a good team win after a very long road trip," Jenkins said of the almost 12-hour round trip. "I was extremely proud of our defense in the third quarter."

The Bucs controlled the game from the outset, starting with a 22-16 lead at the end of the first period.
