A strong pitching performance from Chloee Mason helped the Blinn College softball team earn a doubleheader split with San Jacinto College-South on Saturday in Brenham.

A two-hit complete game from Mason highlighted a 4-1 Buccaneer win in game one of the Region XIV South twin bill before San Jacinto won game two 9-0 in five innings.

"It was a great game pitched by Chloee Mason today," Blinn head coach Rick Church said. "We gave her good defensive and offensive support. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good effort all the way around in game two."

Mason allowed an unearned run in her seven frames in the pitcher's circle while striking out two with two walks.

Keely Castillo broke up a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Kayla Wallace to give the Bucs the lead for good.

Michyla Saenz smacked a two-run single in the home half of the sixth, plating Emily Kristynik and Kenley Strange to close out the scoring.

Blinn finished with 10 hits, led by a three-hit day for Wallace. Saenz and Kristynik had two hits apiece. Kristynik and Acie Prince doubled.

The Bucs managed just four singles in game two as San Jacinto staved off a sweep.

Kaitlyn Sadler was tagged with the loss after working two innings. Kailey Eldridge tossed three frames of relief.

Blinn will play two region doubleheaders at home this week, starting with Galveston College at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11. The Bucs will then host Angelina College for a twin bill beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
