No. 11 Buccaneers drop consecutive games to Northeast Texas and No. 1 Temple

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas - Blinn College softball had a rough day at the Northeast Texas Community College Tournament by falling to host Northeast 4-3 and then losing 8-0 in five innings to No. 1 Temple College Friday in Mount Pleasant.

With the pair of the losses, the Buccaneers fall to 2-5 overall on the second weekend of the season.

Blinn had a 2-0 lead against Northeast but let that lead slip away when Northeast scored four runs in the fifth inning. Kalli Edwards had a strong game at the plate with three singles and a run batted in. Nicole Garcia and Lauren Silver each knocked in a run for the Buccaneers in the loss.

Blinn got on the board early when Edwards started with a single and was brought in to score after a single by Garcia for a 1-0 lead. The Buccaneers were able to add to their lead in the third when Katie Andrie reached with a single and Silver brought her in with a single to left for a 2-0 lead. That lead disappeared in the fifth with four runs scored by Northeast.

Trailing 4-2, Blinn tried cutting into the lead when Jordin Wilkins singled to begin the inning and Edwards later brought her in to score with a single to center to get within 4-3 but that would be as close as Blinn would get it in the loss.

Blinn was unable to register a hit against Temple and lost 8-0 in five innings.

Blinn with play the same two teams Saturday, Feb. 6 starting with Northeast at 1 p.m.
