Blinn outlasts Paris in double-overtime conference bout

The Blinn College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Paris Junior College in Region XIV action Saturday in Paris, Texas.

After the conference foes entered extra time tied 1-1, it was freshman forward David Garcia who, in the 110th minute, sent the Buccaneers to victory when he netted a feed from sophomore Kamille Kum and freshman Pascal Pfeifer

"It was a very physical game and it's a tough place to play," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "The lads poured everything they had into this game. Under the circumstances, this is probably the best result of the season so far."

Blinn is now 8-4-2 on the year and 4-3-1 in region play. The Bucs are in third place in their conference.

After a scoreless stalemate highlighted the first half, Kum opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 67th minute. The Dragons later tied the match in the 77th minute.

The Bucs outshot Paris 31-13 with a 16-8 edge in shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Pena earned the victory in goal for Blinn and made seven saves.

The Buccaneers will take on Northeast Texas Community College in conference play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
