No. 20 Blinn men’s golf takes fourth place at PVAMU Spring Collegiate Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas — The No. 20 Blinn College men's golf teams took fourth, sixth, and eighth place out of nine teams at the Prairie View A&M University Spring Collegiate Invitational at the Sterling Country Club at Houston National Tuesday

"I was really proud of all 10 guys on the first two teams," head coach David Johnson said. "They competed well and stayed focused throughout all three rounds. It was good experience for them to compete against some DI schools and have some success."

The Blinn A team posted team scores of 293 and 299 on the first day, and concluded the tournament with a 299 for a three-round total of 891 to finish in fourth place. The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff won the tournament with a three-round score of 861.

Three Buccaneers finished in the top-15. Riley Simmons tied for seventh place to lead the way for Blinn, while Kannin Mikulik and John Baker tied for 14th place.

"Simmons, Mikiluk, and Bryce Honeck shot rounds of 3-under-par 69, and Simmons finished one over for all three rounds," Johnson said. "That was really good playing on a demanding golf course. Several guys had their best collegiate tournament totals which was exciting to see."

Simmons led the Blinn A team with a 3-under-par 69, 72, and 76. Baker scored a 72 in the first round and a pair of 75s the next two rounds. Cameron Gray tied for 20th with a 73, 78, and 74. Travis Edwards tied for 25th with a 79, 75, and 74. In addition, Justin Dees scored a three-round total of 233 to tie for 39th.

The Blinn B team placed sixth after recording team scores of 305 and 302 the first day, and concluding the tournament with a 291 for a three-round total of 898.

Mikulik led the Blinn B team with scores of 79, 74, and 69. Jack Looney tied for 18th place with a pair of 74s and a 76. Honeck tied for 22nd with a 79, 78, and 69. Hayden Roup shot a 73, 76, and 79 to tie for 25th place. Brock Schobel shot a three-round total of 240 for 43rd place.

The Blinn C team placed eighth after posting a 320 and 318 in the first two rounds, and a 320 the second day for a three-round total of 958.

Morgan Hubbard led the C team with a 74, 76, and 80 to tie for 34th. Michael Strout placed 41st with a 78, 82, and 75. Rayne Schlachter placed 44th with a three-round total of 242, Chandler Brooks placed 47th with a three-round total of 251, and Aaron Reardon placed 52nd with a three-round total of 302.

Next, the Blinn College men's and women's golf teams will compete in the Centenary/Hal Sutton Invitational in Bossier City, La. on March 21-23.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
