The Blinn College men's basketball team fell to McLennan Community College 82-65 on the road Wednesday in Waco, Texas.

In their season opener, the Buccaneers (0-1) got off to a strong start and led 11-4 early in the first half, but head coach Scott Schumacher said poor shot selection and a strong Highlander defense halted his team's momentum.

"I think we were playing really well, but we took some questionable shots," Schumacher explained. "Then McLennan was able to get some cheap buckets on us and they did a tremendous job guarding us in the second half and we did not respond very well."

McLennan led 44-35 at the half.

Sophomore guard Elijah Elliott and freshman forward Jamine Charles tallied 14 points apiece for the Bucs.

"We just have to get back to the drawing board and get ready for Saturday's home game," Schumacher said.

Blinn will host Lone Star College-Tomball at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
