Buccaneers add 33 on National Signing Day

The Blinn College football team received 33 national letters of intent on National Signing Day Wednesday.

"This recruiting class has met every need that we had and we are very proud of it," said Ryan Mahon, Blinn head coach. "We added kids who bought into our process and what our program is detailed around, and who also are very good athletically. We have a diverse talent set and it opens doors for coaches in what schemes we can run."

The offensive signees are Eric Williams (QB – Lake Wales), Ronald Carroll (RB – Fort Bend), De'Quavion Thomas (RB – Byron P. Steele), Ka'Veon Griffin (WR - Lamar), Dedrick Kinney (WR – Dallas Madison), Jackson Mueller (WR – Brenham), Brandon Tryon Jr. (WR – Fort Bend Thurgood Marshall), Chase Davidson (WR – Cypress Fairbanks), Gary Lynch (WR – Bryan), Yann Toussom (WR – Brenham), Tristen Hickman (OL - Atascocita), Cedric Melton (OL – Klein Cain), Quintrell Coates (OL - Anahauc), and Brien Taylor (OL – Cypress Falls).

The defensive signees are John Abernathy (DL - Manvel), Azavion Deans (DL – Wilcox County), Jeremiah Sutton  (DL - Fort Bend Stephen F. Austin), Jonteveon Robinson (DL – Brenham), Edward  Veliz (DL – Milby), Trellis Collins (DL – Westlake), Makel Williams (LB – A&M Consolidated),  Keion Bennett (LB – Samuel Clemens), Devin Benson (LB – Glenda Dawson), Sederick Colbert (LB – Estacado), Pearson Hendrix (LB – Bishop Dunne), Michael Witherwax (LB/HB – A&M Consolidated), Antoine Johnson Jr. (DB – Eagles Landing), Leroy Joubert (DB – R.S. Sterling Aviation), Jason Kerl (DB – Nolan Catholic), Bryce Linder (DB – A&M Consolidated), Brenden Stokes (DB – Pearland), and Aareeon Demby (DB – C.E. King).

Blinn also signed kicker Erik Michel, a transfer from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Eleven players joined Blinn in January, including Chris Herron (QB - Kansas State University), Chandler Rogers (QB – The University of Southern Mississippi), Imiee Cooksey (WR- University of Tulsa), Bryson Jackson (WR – University of Houston), Henry Thomas (WR – University of Houston), Elijah Washington (OL – Belton), Vernon Hartfield (DB – Southern Nazarene University), Xavier Player (DB – Oklahoma State University), Torey Richardson (DB – University of Houston), Preston Suttice (DB – Lake Dallas), and Armani Lowery (DL – The Woodlands).

"We really went after the mid-year signees this year," Mahon said. "We wanted to bring in a lot of players with experience and talent, so it fell into place where we were able to sign a lot of these guys early."                                                                                                 

The Buccaneers will host tryouts for the 2020 season on Saturday, Feb. 8, and Saturday, May 16, at Brenham High School's Cub Stadium. Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
