No. 5 Kilgore defeats Blinn, 49-7

KILGORE, Texas — No. 5 Kilgore College defeated Blinn College football (4-4, 2-4) on Saturday, 49-7.

Quarterback Brock Landis completed 19 of 37 passes for 133 yards and one touchdown. Xavier Hutchinson led the receivers with seven catches for 57 yards, while Kadiran Hammond caught two passes for 24 yards and one touchdown. On defense, Ben Langston led Blinn with 12 total tackles and one interception. 

The Rangers took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter before climbing to a 35-0 lead at the half. Blinn scored the only touchdown in the third quarter and Kilgore finished the game with two touchdowns in the final quarter.

In the opening quarter, Kilgore scored touchdowns at the 9:26 and 7:01 marks, and returned a kickoff with 4:45 remaining for an early lead.

The Rangers scored with 13:45 and 12:35 on the clock to pull ahead 35-0 in the second quarter.

Blinn scored the only touchdown in the third quarter with 3:27 showing as Landis threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Hammond for the Buccaneers to trail 35-7.

Kilgore added two more touchdowns to the board in the final quarter at the 15:00 and 7:49 marks for a 49-7 final.

Next, the Buccaneers will travel to play New Mexico Military Institute on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. for the final game of the regular season.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
