Buccaneers end 2016 season after being swept by San Jacinto at home

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College baseball had a rough doubleheader season finale as San Jacinto College-North exploded on offense to sweep the Buccaneers 18-3 and 13-1 Saturday afternoon at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham.

Being on the wrong end of the sweep gives Blinn a 23-31 overall record to finish the season and 13-27 in the Region XIV South Zone standings. The Buccaneers will finish fifth in the South Zone, one spot outside of qualifying for the Region XIV tournament.

San Jacinto 18 – Blinn 3

One very bad inning for Blinn turned a close game into a blowout as San Jacinto scored 11 runs in the third inning on its way to an 18-3 victory in five innings.

The Buccaneers did have a couple big hits early on as George Pappas hit a solo home run as did Jay Anderson while Anderson added a single in the game. Angel De La Fuente had a single and an RBI while Colton Parrish had a pair of singles in the loss.

Blinn actually jumped out on top with a leadoff home run by Anderson to left to take a 1-0 lead after an inning. San Jacinto battled back with a single run in the second to tie the game at 1-1. Pappas countered with a solo home run of his own to left to help Blinn regain the lead at 2-1 in the second inning.

The third inning is where San Jacinto put up 11 runs as 16 batters came up to the plate in the inning to help San Jacinto take a 12-2 lead.

The Buccaneers didn't give up as Anderson started the bottom of the third with a single and later came in to score on a sacrifice fly by De La Fuente to get Blinn within 12-3. That would be the final run scored by Blinn as San Jacinto added two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to end the game early with an 18-3 score.

San Jacinto 13 – Blinn 1

Blinn did a much better job of holding San Jacinto at bay until the ninth inning as San Jacinto opened the game up with nine runs to pull out the 13-1 victory to earn the sweep.

Austen Swift provided the lone RBI with a solo home run. Elijah MacNamee hit a single, double and a triple at the plate, just a home run short of the cycle. Anderson and Patrick King both knocked two singles in the loss.

Blinn was held scoreless for the first eight innings while San Jacinto scored two in the first, single runs in the fifth and eighth and then nine runs in the ninth to take a 13-0 lead.

Swift started the ninth inning with his solo home run to center that helped the Buccaneers avoid the shutout and make the final score 13-1.
