Early goal leads Angelina over Blinn

The Blinn College women's soccer team dropped a Region XIV match to Angelina College in a 1-0 decision on the road Saturday.

The Buccaneers are now 5-7-1 overall and 4-7-1 in Region XIV.

Angelina scored early in the first half on a free kick and the two teams played scoreless soccer the rest of the way.

"It was a slow first half … our team was disjointed," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "But we came out in the second half and the performance was really pretty good.

"We matched Angelina player-for-player and it was a good game for a neutral. It was a good performance, just poor results. We're still chasing that perfect 90 minutes."

The Buccaneers totaled six shots. Goalkeeper Angel Chase made five saves in goal.

Blinn continues its season on the road when it visits Navarro College (7-4, 7-4) for a 4 p.m. tilt Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
