GALVESTON, Texas – Blinn College softball capped its regular season by sweeping a doubleheader against No. 7 Galveston College by the score of 5-2 and 4-2 Sunday afternoon in Galveston.

Blinn 5 – Galveston 2

Blinn used the long ball to score the majority of its runs in a 5-2 victory over Galveston in the opener of the doubleheader.

Courtney White and Lauren Silver hit solo home runs while Jordin Wilkin blasted a three-run home run to supply the run support. Sam Junkin pitched all seven innings and gave up just two earned runs on five hits while striking out one to improve to 16-4 on the year.

Blinn started the scoring in the third when Nicole Garcia and Meghann Wrinkle both singled and then Wilkins blasted her 10th home run of the year to give the Buccaneers a 3-0 lead. White started off the fourth inning with a solo home run to center, her fourth of the year, to give Blinn a 4-0 lead.

Galveston did get closer to Blinn with two runs in the fifth inning to get within 4-2. Silver helped Blinn add an additional run in the sixth with a solo home run to left, her second on the year, to give the Buccaneers a 5-2 lead that would hold up as the final score.

Blinn 4 – Galveston 2

It took a few extra innings for Blinn to beat Galveston in the second game but a two-run home run by Garcia in the 11th inning guided the Buccaneers to a 4-2 victory to secure the sweep.

Wilkins added her 11th home run of the season with a solo shot for an RBI. Erika Wood had a pair of singles and an RBI while White and Kalli Edwards each had two hits in the win.

Bobbi Berkey got the start and lasted eight innings while giving up two runs on five hits and four strikeouts in the no decision. Junkin pitched the final three innings without giving up a run on two hits while striking out five to improve to 17-4 on the year.

Wilkins helped Blinn get on the board with a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning for a 1-0 lead. Wood brought in a second run with a fielder's choice that scored White for a 2-0 lead. That lead disappeared when Galveston scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 2-2.

The game was forced into extra innings and it was Blinn that struck first in the 11th inning when Ashley Langston reached on an error and then Garcia followed two batters later with her fourth home run on the season to center to give the Buccaneers the 4-2 victory.

Blinn will next play in the Region XIV Tournament in Pasadena on Thursday, April 28 at 10 a.m. against Navarro College.
