Seven Blinn football players sign mid-year letters of intent

Seven Blinn College football players are headed to four-year universities this month after signing mid-year letters of intent on Dec. 14.

Four of the seven players are heading to Football Bowl Subdivision schools in the Pac 12 and Conference USA.

Safety Corrion Ballard (Houston) signed with the University of Utah while defensive tackle Javier Edwards (Houston) will also be playing in the Pac 12 after signing with the University of Colorado.

Ballard was recently named an NJCAA All-American and was fourth on the team with 41 tackles while also picking up five sacks and three interceptions. Edwards totaled 24 tackles and two sacks while plugging up the middle of the line.

Offensive linemen Robert Kirkpatrick (Uvalde) and Hanner Shipley (Marble Falls) will team up after signing at Louisiana Tech University. The offensive linemen helped Blinn average 462.8 yards per game.

Three players will continue their playing careers at Football Championship Subdivision schools. Quarterback Caleb Hill (Brenham) signed with University of Montana, offensive lineman Cody Hooks (Willis) signed with Houston Baptist University, and offensive lineman Junior Pierre (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) signed with Southeast Missouri State University.

Hill missed three games with an injury, but still led the Buccaneers with 872 yards passing and added five touchdowns.

"I wanted to just go somewhere that was right for me and Montana just fit," Hill said. "I feel like I can develop there, not only as a football player but as a student."

Blinn finished 2016 with a 5-4 record under coach Ryan Mahon. More Buccaneers are expected to sign on Feb. 1.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 34 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com
