Blinn’s D'Anthony Hopkins named NJCAA offensive player of week for performance at Tyler

Running back D'Anthony Hopkins not only helped Blinn College football upset No. 3 Tyler Junior College last Saturday, but his performance also earned National Junior College Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Hopkins ran the ball 28 times for 369 yards and four touchdowns to help Blinn to a 50-35 victory over Tyler. Hopkins had two rushing touchdowns of 31 yards and one each of 78 and 84.

"D'Anthony has the size to pound defenders and the speed to run away, and that makes him special," said Ryan Mahon, interim head coach. "That performance against Tyler was a once-in-a-career type of night."

The performance against Tyler adds to an already impressive season for Hopkins, as he currently leads the NJCAA in rushing yards with 738 yards and in touchdowns with 12.

This is the second time a Buccaneer has earned offensive player of the week honors this season. Earnest Patterson Jr. earned the award in the third week of the season after he caught six balls for 263 yards and three touchdowns in a loss to Navarro College on Sept. 10.

Blinn is now 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. The Buccaneers will face Arkansas Baptist College on Saturday, Oct. 8, for a 2 p.m. homecoming game at Cub Stadium.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 34 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
