Wharton County takes Region XIV South doubleheader from Blinn

Wharton County Junior College swept a Region XIV South doubleheader from the Blinn College baseball team Friday in Wharton, Texas.

The Buccaneers were defeated 5-4 in game one and 7-3 in the finale. 

Blinn is now 13-29 overall with a 9-19 South zone record. 

In the opener, a Dave Wilson RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Luke Nail gave the Bucs a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning, but Pioneers rallied for three runs in the home half of the inning to jump ahead for good. Wharton County added a run in the fifth, and Blinn countered with a Jaxon Daigre RBI single in the six to finish the scoring.

The pitcher of record for the Bucs was Evan Aschenbeck, who allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.

In game two, Wharton County built a 6-0 lead before Blinn got going in the top of the sixth. 

Trevor Roper smacked an RBI single, Arturo Hernandez plated Roper with a single, and Sean Monsour's double drove in Hernandez to make it 6-3.

The Pioneers added a single tally in the bottom of the sixth.

Derek Stumpf was the pitcher of record for the Bucs following a two-inning outing. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and punched out two. 

Blinn visits region foe Coastal Bend Community College at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, in Beeville, Texas.
