Buccaneers commit too many mistakes in loss to No. 5 Panola, 3-0

CARTHAGE, Texas – With Blinn College volleyball giving away 42 points it would be hard to beat any team and it was those mistakes that hurt the Buccaneers in a 3-0 loss to No. 5 Panola College Tuesday night in Carthage.

Panola won by the score of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-23 to send the Blinn overall record to 13-8 as the Region XIV record remains at 4-1.

"We gave Panola way too many points and it is difficult to beat any team that way," said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach. "We gave away 42 points and only scored 36."

Paola Marie Salas Adorno led Blinn with eight kills and added six digs. Alexis Kingston added six kills and 10 digs while Eboni Mitchell turned in an impressive performance with six kills and three aces while taking care of the ball. Ally Lanik led the Buccaneers with 15 assists.

Blinn did not start out the match the way it would have wanted as the Buccaneers scored on 14 and 13 points in the first and second set, respectively.

The third set was much better as Blinn had a six-point lead early on and held a 22-19 lead late in third, needing only three points to force a fourth set. That fourth set never came as Panola won six of the next seven points to steal away the third set and secure the sweep.

Blinn will hit the road this weekend for the Tyler Junior College Tournament with two matches on Friday, Sept. 30. The Buccaneers will open with New Mexico Military Institute at 2 p.m. and face the host Tyler Junior College at 4 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 34 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
