Blinn College women’s soccer players Kaley Kaspar and Yasmine Cuadra sign with four-year colleges

Blinn College women's soccer players Kaley Kaspar (Brazoria) and Yasmine Cuadra (Cypress) recently signed letters of intent to continue their academic and playing careers with four-year programs.

Kaspar, a sophomore forward, signed with St. Edward's University. Cuadra, a sophomore middle, signed with Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

Kaspar came to Blinn from Columbia High School and made an immediate impact, starting 15 games as a freshman.

"Kaley's drive helped us compete last season, and her goals won us games," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "We appreciate her contributions both on and off the field. The staff is eager to see the impact she makes at the next level."

Kaspar led the Buccaneers with 10 goals, including three game-winners, and recorded one assist in 2019.

"I am extremely excited to be moving on to such a prestigious four-year university as St. Edward's University and am thankful to have this opportunity to continue my degree in criminal justice while also advancing my soccer career," Kaspar said. ""I am going to miss my coaches who pushed and supported me during my time at Blinn. Their encouragement and dedication is something I will carry with me."

Cuadra came to Blinn from Cypress Woods High School and immediately played an important role during the program's inaugural season.

"Yasmine is one of the pioneers of Blinn women's soccer," McBride said. "Being a player in a first-year program is filled with challenges and Yasmine overcame all of these admirably. We thank her for her influence in helping shape our fledgling program and look forward to watching her play at the next level."

Cuadra played in 18 games, started three, and recorded one goal and one assist in two years at Blinn.

"I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to continue my athletic and academic career at Texas A&M-San Antonio," Cuadra said. "I have been playing soccer since I was 12 years old and being able to play the sport I love at the next level was a goal of mine. I am thankful for the great coaching staff at Blinn that has pushed me to be the player I am today and helped me reach my goals as a player and student."

Blinn finished the 2019 season with 6-9-1 overall record and 4-7-1 conference record. The team was honored with a 2019 College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award from the United Soccer Coaches Association for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the rules of the game.

"I am extremely proud of both players for continuing their academic and athletic careers," Blinn assistant coach Alexandria Jackson said. "They embody what it means to be a Blinn soccer player. They both have been through trials and tribulations to get where they are now and deserve all the success they will achieve at the next level."

The NJCAA postponed the Fall 2020 season until the Spring 2021 semester due to the pandemic. The Blinn women's soccer team will open the season against Paris Junior College on Friday, April 3, at 3 p.m. at Rankin Field.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
