Two great pitching performances helps Blinn sweep Galveston, 2-1 and 3-1

GALVESTON, Texas – Blinn College softball received two great pitching performances and just enough run support to sweep Galveston College 2-1 and 3-1 Friday afternoon.

"We got two well-pitched games by Kamryn Boucher and Colleen Bentke and were able to score runs off some of the better pitchers in conference," said Rick Church, Blinn head coach. "Hopefully this sweep will put us back on track to compete for the number one seed in the South."

The pair of victories improves the Blinn record to 17-11 overall and 3-1 in Region XIV play.

Blinn 2 – Galveston 1

A great pitching performance from Kamryn Boucher and just enough run support was enough to give Blinn a 2-1 victory over Galveston to open the doubleheader.

Boucher pitched all seven innings and allowed only three hits and one earned run while striking out six to pick up her first victory on the season. The Buccaneers had just enough offense with five hits total.

Emily Taylor had the lone RBI in the win while Gabriela Gomez had two doubles in the win.

Morgan Gray took advantage of a couple Galveston errors to put Blinn on the board. Gray reached base on an error and then scored on a separate error in the third to take a 1-0 lead. The Buccaneers doubled their lead in the fourth inning when Taylor hit a fly ball deep enough to score Makalah Norman from third to take a 2-0 lead. Galveston cut the lead in half with a single run in the sixth but was unable to score any more as Blinn held on for the one-run victory.

Blinn 3 – Galveston 1

Colleen Bentke closed out the sweep with the great pitching performance and again, Blinn had just enough run support to pull out the 3-1 victory over Galveston in the nightcap.

Bentke pitched seven complete innings and allowed four hits, one earned run while striking out eight to improve to 10-2 on the season. Blinn's seven singles were enough to get the win as Kalli Edwards had the lone RBI in the game. Nicole Garcia and Gray each had two singles in the win.

Edwards was able to get the scoring started in the third with an RBI single up the middle to score Gray for a 1-0 lead. Edwards later scored on a Galveston error for a 2-0 lead. Galveston was able to cut the Blinn lead in half with a single run in the fourth to get within 2-1.

Gray was able to manufacture an insurance run in the fifth after she singled to start the inning and then later scored on a wild pitch to give the Buccaneers a 3-1 lead that would hold up until the final out.

Blinn will continue conference play with a road doubleheader at Alvin Community College on Saturday, March 18 beginning at 1 p.m.
