Buccaneers bomb six home runs in sweep

BEEVILLE, Texas – The bomb squad was out for the Blinn Buccaneer softball team here Thursday afternoon.

The Buccaneers launched six home runs and snapped a six-game losing streak as they swept the Coastal Bend Lady Cougars, 9-3 and 3-1.

Though the Blinn offense struggled during its six-game losing streak, the Bucs pieced together three-run and five-run innings in Game 1 that included home runs by freshmen Jaiden Rawls and Mariah Gibson. Sophomore Peyton Webb launched a shot of her own in the top of the third.

The big shots didn't stop in Game 2.

In the top of the third, Webb and sophomore Sydney Wellmann hit back-to-back bombs to give the Bucs a 2-1 lead. A Gibson homer in the fourth made it 3-1.

Gibson was 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI on the day. Wellmann was 4-for-6 with two runs and an RBI.

Gibson picked up the win in Game 1 after tossing a complete game, allowing six hits, three runs and striking out four. Rawls notched the win in Game 2 with a complete-game, six-hit, one-run performance.
