Panola pulls away from Blinn in regional tournament opener, 11-2

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Blinn College baseball fought back from an early two-run deficit but Panola College finished strong to beat the Buccaneers 11-2 in seven innings in the opening round of the Region XIV tournament at Texas Air Hogs Stadium.

With the loss, Blinn falls to 28-26 overall and will face Galveston College in the consolation bracket on Sunday, May 14 at 10 a.m.

Angel De La Fuente brought in one of the two Blinn runs with a solo home run while Marshall Skinner brought in the other run. Sam McElreath hit a double in the loss.

Panola was able to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning but Blinn fought right back in the second inning. De La Fuente started the inning with a solo home run to get within 2-1. Skinner tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right to score McElreath to make the score 2-2.

That would be the final run scored by the Buccaneers as Panola reclaimed the lead in the third with three runs and then padded its lead with six runs in the fourth for an 11-2 lead that would hold up as the final score.
