Buccaneers clamp down defensively to beat No. 15 Collin County, 56-36

WACO, Texas – Blinn College women's basketball put forth a strong defensive effort in the first and fourth quarters to upset No. 15 Collin County Community College 56-36 at the McLennan Shootout in Waco Sunday evening.

The Buccaneers only allowed six points in both the first and fourth quarter to shut down Collin County and improve to 10-5 overall and remain at 2-3 in Region XIV play.

Jeliah Preston led Blinn with 13 points as the only player in double figures. Ebony Parker added eight points, Bryanna Taylor scored seven and Daikea Milton added six points in the low-scoring victory.

Blinn came out right from the beginning and shut down Collin County and grabbed a commanding 16-6 lead after the first quarter. Collin County did fight back in the second quarter to get within 25-22 at the half.

The Buccaneers improved in the third quarter, outscoring Collin County 17-8 and the fourth quarter was even better defensively in only allowing six points to close out the victory.

Blinn will be back home on Wednesday, Jan. 6 against Kilgore College at 5:30 p.m.
