Blinn volleyball extends win streak to 18 matches

The Blinn College volleyball team swept two more opponents Friday in the opening day of the Blinn Invitational at the Kruse Center, winning both matches 3-0.

The Bucs beat Brookhaven College 25-14, 25-12, 25-10 in their opening match, then downed Cisco College 25-7, 25-16, 25-11.

Blinn is now 19-1 on the season and has won 18 straight matches.

"I thought we blocked really well today," head coach Terry Gamble said, "and I thought our setters and middles had a really good day."

Against Brookhaven, Chard'e Van Zandt led with 11 kills. Reagan Casey added nine and Jayde Shelton eight. As a team, Blinn had a .305 kill percentage.

Lina Ellila led Blinn with 26 assists and had two service aces. Savannah Sebek added 15 assists and Guilia Hortelan led Blinn with eight digs.

Shelton put down 14 kills against Cisco College to lead Blinn in that match. Hortelan added nine and Casey seven. Ellila added 35 assists.

Blinn will play two more matches Saturday – at 11 a.m. against College of DuPage and 5 p.m. against Dallas College-North Lake. The Bucs return to conference play Tuesday, hosting Panola College at 6 p.m. in the Kruse Center. They are 4-0 in the conference.
