Buccaneers lose lead in fourth to fall to San Jacinto College-North, 67-60

BRENHAM, Texas - Blinn College women's basketball let a four-point lead slip away in the final quarter for San Jacinto College-North to come back and defeat the Buccaneers 67-60 on Saturday afternoon in the Kruse Center.

"We had the lead in the fourth quarter, but struggled to score and take care of the ball in the last eight minutes," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.

Jade Rochelle led Blinn's offense with 16 points, while Alexus Wykoff followed with a season-high 12 points. Rayanna Carter and Alanna Spencer each chipped in nine points.

San Jacinto was able to jump out to an early lead by claiming a 16-14 lead after the first quarter. The momentum continued for the San Jacinto Gators as they held a 36-33 lead at the break.

Blinn came back from the half and played a strong third quarter to outscore San Jacinto 15-11 to take a 48-47 lead heading into the final quarter. Blinn held a four-point lead in the beginning of the fourth quarter, however the momentum shifted back to San Jacinto. San Jacinto went on to outscore Blinn 20-12 to take a 67-60 victory.

With the loss, Blinn's overall record falls to 10-15 and Region XIV record falls to 3-12.

Next, Blinn will take on Paris Junior College on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Kruse Center. Following the game, the men's basketball team will take on Schreiner University JV.

Earlier this season, Blinn defeated Paris, 58-45.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
