BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College women's basketball held a 29-27 lead over No. 8 Trinity Valley Community College at the half, but the Lady Cardinals were able to come back for a 54-50 victory Saturday afternoon inside the Kruse Center."We played extremely hard and made every shot that Trinity Valley took a difficult one," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.

"We just had problems scoring in the third quarter, but I am very happy with their effort against a team with only two losses this season and ranked eighth in the nation."

Ke'Asia Williams led the Buccaneers with 12 points, while Alanna Spencer and Rayanna Carter followed with nine points each, and Alexus Wykoff chipped in eight points.

The Buccaneers fall to 9-11 on the year and 3-8 in Region XIV play.

Trinity Valley came into the game with a four-game winning streak and as the highest nationally ranked team in the conference with an 18-2 record. The Lady Cardinals broke open a 19-7 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Buccaneers managed to put out the Lady Cardinals fire by holding them to eight points, while scoring 22 points to grab a 29-27 lead during halftime.

In the third quarter, Trinity Valley outscored Blinn by four points to get back a 40-38 lead. The Buccaneers kept up the pace in the final quarter, but Trinity Valley came out on top.

The Buccaneers are back in action on Monday, Jan. 29 at the Kruse Center when they take on Cisco College at 4 p.m. Earlier in the season the Buccaneers defeated Cisco, 83-51.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
