Buccaneers hold down Temple, 69-61, to win season opener

TEMPLE, Texas- The Blinn College women's basketball team opened the season with a 69-61 win over Temple College on Tuesday night.

"We played hard and I am very proud of the team," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "It is a tough place to play; we haven't won in Temple in the last four years."

Kyler Wyatt led the Blinn offense with 19 points, while Rayanna Carter followed with 16, Jade Rochelle with 11, and Aaliyah Holmes with 10.

Blinn's explosive offense allowed the Buccaneers to hold the lead at the end of each quarter throughout the game. The Buccaneers opened the first quarter with a 15-9 lead, and although Temple continued to play Blinn close, the Buccaneers managed to stay on top, 32-28, at the half.

In the third quarter, the Buccaneers limited Temple to nine points as they took off with 17 points to extend their lead to 49-37. Temple finished the game strong, outscoring Blinn 24-20 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to stop Blinn from claiming the win.

Blinn opens the season 1-0 and will continue non-conference play on the road against Cisco College on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987
