Gabriella Rodriguez’s goal leads Blinn to tie in double overtime, 1-1

BRENHAM, Texas — Gabriella Rodriguez's scored a goal in the 64th minute for the Blinn College women's soccer team (2-10-1, 2-7-1) to send the game into overtime against Northeast Texas Community College on Friday afternoon at Rankin Field.

After falling behind 1-0, Tyler Tippit assisted Rodriguez in scoring a goal against the Hawks to even the score. The game ended in a 1-1 tie in double overtime.

"I was proud of our team for showing resilience and scoring the tying goal to send the game into overtime," said Jorden Smith, Blinn head coach. "It is frustrating that we couldn't get the win because we have so many talented players, but we couldn't finish. That is something we are going to continue to work on in these last games of the season."

The Buccaneers recorded 27 shots in the game with Kajol Prasad and Hailey Burke tallying six each.

Blinn and Northeast Texas featured strong defenses throughout the majority of the game. Sarah Schlemmer recorded nine saves for the Buccaneers as Blinn held the Hawks scoreless until the 54th minute.

Blinn immediately answered as Tippit assisted Rodriguez in scoring a goal in the 64th minute to even the score 1-1.

Blinn and Northeast Texas each displayed strong defenses in both overtime periods for a 1-1 final.

Next, Blinn will face Louisiana State University-Eunice on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 3 p.m. on the road.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
