BRENHAM, Texas — No. 3 Tyler Junior College topped Blinn College women's soccer (2-10, 2-7) by the score of 7-1 on Tuesday night at Rankin Field.

"We finally put a really good half together and this is probably one of the best games we have played this year although the score doesn't reflect it," said Jorden Smith, Blinn head coach. "The build-up that we had leading up to scoring the goal tonight was phenomenal and that is what we love seeing."

Natasha Thiele scored Blinn's lone goal, while Katie Rabold recorded the assist. Aside from Thiele, Jillian Jackson, Kajol Prasad and Hailey Burke each recorded a shot on goal.

On defense, Sarah Schlemmer made her first start for the Buccaneers and impressed with 15 saves.

"I was really excited to play in my first game for Blinn College and this team is very dedicated and pushed a lot," Schlemmer said. "It was really great to see them work together and get the ball moved up to score a goal."

Tyler scored quickly to open the first half in the third minute and held a 2-0 lead in the sixth minute. However, the Buccaneers cut the Apaches lead in half in the 14th minute as Rabold passed the ball to Thiele to start a scoring drive. Thiele sent the ball into the net for Blinn's first goal and for the Buccaneers to trail 2-1 early on.

For the next 15 minutes, the Buccaneers held Tyler's offense. Following a foul, the Apaches maximized the opportunity and scored on a direct kick to lead 3-1 in the 29th minute. Tyler scored in the final minute of the first half to lead 4-1.

Tyler kept the momentum rolling into the second half and scored on a direct kick and a penalty kick in the 65th and 74th minutes to lead 6-1. The Apaches scored their last goal in the 79th minute for a 7-1 final.

Blinn women's soccer will continue conference play at home against Northeast Texas Community College on Friday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. at Rankin Field.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
