No. 9 Richland tops Blinn, 10-2

BRENHAM, Texas — Blinn College women's soccer (1-3) took a break from conference play to face off against the ninth-ranked team in the NJCAA Division III poll, Richland College. Although the Buccaneers took five shots and made two shots on goal, Richland managed a 10-2 victory on Tuesday night at Rankin Field.

Katherine Rabold and Yadira Gonzalez led the Blinn offense after scoring one goal apiece, while Jillian Jackson recorded an assist.

Zoe Madrid led the Blinn defense with nine saves in the second half, while Kaysi Gordon recorded five saves in the first half.

After Richland took a 2-0 lead in the first half, Jackson assisted Rabold for Blinn's first goal in the 32nd minute to keep the Buccaneers in the game, 2-1. However, Richland took back the momentum to score the next four goals for a 6-1 lead.

Gonzalez scored the final goal for Blinn in the 78th minute for the Buccaneers to trail 6-2. Richland scored the next four goals for a 10-2 final.

Blinn College women's soccer will resume conference play on the road when the Buccaneers take on Northeast Texas Community College on Friday, Sept. 7, at 3 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
