Blinn College women’s soccer falls to Angelina in season opener, 6-1

BRENHAM, Texas — Blinn College women's soccer (0-1, 0-1) fell to Angelina College by the score of 6-1 in the season opener at Rankin Field on Saturday afternoon.

"Their first 20 minutes were phenomenal and they did everything that we asked for," said Jorden Smith, Blinn head coach. "We are super happy with what we saw from them and if we can maintain that for an entire game then we will be good for the rest of the season."

Katie Rabold scored the lone goal for Blinn, while Jillian Jackson and Ryleigh Smith recoreded the assists.

Angelina grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, but the Buccaneers fought hard to stay competitive and even the score. Freshman midfielder Katie Rabold scored the first goal in Blinn College women's soccer history to tie the game 1-1 in the first half.

"I was so hyped and excited to score the first goal for Blinn and really enjoyed celebrating with my teammates," Rabold said.

Angelina managed to take back a 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute and went on to score four more goals in the second half to take a 6-1 victory.

The Buccaneers will look for their first win of the season on the road in a conference match-up against Jacksonville College on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 5 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
